Turning Negative into Positive When You Have a Bad Day

 

We have been talking about how to turn negative thoughts into positive ones, but it isn’t always as easy as just putting a positive spin on it. Sometimes, you are just having a terrible day and are completely consumed by one derailment after another. These are the days when you need to think a little out of the box if you still want to be a positive person who thinks optimistically about everything in life.

Here are some tips for reframing those negative thoughts into positive ones, even when it seems like everything is going wrong.

 

Why Bother? 

First of all, why do you need to reframe your negative thoughts? Technically, you don’t need to, but it can help to maintain a positive attitude as you go through life. It is not what happens to you that defines you, but how you deal with it. Everyone has things that go wrong or unexpected in their life, but not everyone has a negative attitude about it. Why? Because some people have learned how to cope with the bad things and somehow turn them into good things, even if they are just putting a positive spin on something that had really unfortunate timing.

Write Everything Down

If you are a little overwhelmed by all the negative things happening on a particularly bad day, just take a step back, take a breath, and write it down. Get out your journal and detail everything that has happened. Describe in detail why you are having a bad day, what has happened or gone wrong, and what you have done about it.

In some cases, you find positives just by writing it all down. In others, you just feel a little lighter having vented through journaling. And in other situations, you might find that you didn’t have the best response to something, and you were actually the reason it went bad. This intention is a really important lesson to learn moving forward.

There is (Almost) Always a Positive Spin

This might not be true for all bad things in your life, but there is usually a positive spin you can put on most situations. It might be that you made a mistake, learned from it, and will try harder not to make it in the future. Or the positive spin is just that the bad or embarrassing moment is over, and now you don’t have to relive it.

In other situations, maybe you had to go somewhere new because the place you usually visit was closed, and while this put you in a sour mood, you met someone new at this new place. Cherish and appreciate these unexpected moments, because they really provide you with a lot more positivity.

 

At the end of the day, when you are still struggling, just appreciate that the day is over and now you can move on from it.

Top Ways to Value Your Time - Lessons Learned

 


I personally have truly struggled with the value of time. Truth is, no one will value your time professionally or personally until you decide to make it a priority. This post on the top 3 ways to value your time, is so near and dear to my heart because I still do at times struggle defining those lines between my business and personal time. However, the following three things have truly helped me to respect my time and stick to it!

Set Office Hours & Stick to them 

This has proven to be the most difficult for me. At least I know that I am not alone. Setting hours and sticking to them can prove to be a challenge.  setting office hours and sticking to them is super important. One thing that we all want is for others to respect our time, and how can we expect anyone to respect our time when we refuse to do it ourselves? If you are not sure what your hours should be here is a suggestion on how to gain clarity on what those hours should be:

  • keep a log of your day to day activities for at least a week, preferably two. Make sure you write everything you are doing. Once you have done that you can see what times of the day you are doing which activities and determine what times you want to set for yourself on a day to day basis. Note that you don't have to have hours Monday through Friday, and you don't have to have the exact same hours each day. Regardless, make sure that you set times that work best for you and the clients that you serve. 

Pick at Least 1 Day a Week Off 

One of the top 3 Ways to Value Your Time is to definitely pick at least one free day a week.  We all need free time! You are not a bad person for wanting, needing and demanding at least one free day per week. As an entrepreneur, it can be difficult to designate a day, but the recharge and reset is a necessary part of staying focused and avoiding burnout.  This one ties into number one for a few reasons:

  • when you are scheduling your time, figure in when you are working on blog posts, working on social media, when you want to take client calls, etc. all of this needs to be scheduled in your office hours, not your free time. This was a large mistake that I made in the beginning. I was using "free time" to schedule posts, write content, take client calls, and work on projects.  As you can tell, I had no free time and was approaching burnout. I was losing my passion and started to think negatively about my business. 
  • By journaling, you also get to see how much time each thing you are doing takes. This helps when you set hours and schedule appointments. This will also help you with setting realistic goals for due dates etc for clients because you will know how long these projects will take you. 

Scheduling Helps You Respect & value Your Time, So Use One!

Another one of the top 3 ways to value your time is utilizing a schedule. Create a schedule and stick to it! This also makes you more aware of your time and just how long it takes to do tasks. By scheduling, you also will not forget important events, dates or info if you keep everything in a schedule. When I have had times that I want to get down on myself for not doing enough, all I have to do is look at my schedule and it is an instant pick me up. I see just how much I have been able to get done and feel accomplished.

There are many additional ways that you can value your time. The top 3 ways to value your time can be beneficial and don't feel like you have to implement every method all at once.
